🌅 昇 = 日 sun + 升 rise: noboru is what the sun does at dawn
The 日 sun radical sits on top, so 昇る is used for things that rise on their own, like the sun, smoke or a promotion (昇進). For climbing a mountain on foot, Japanese uses 登る instead; both are read noboru.
