改めて
あらためて · aratamete · JLPT N2 · adverb
again
改 = change, renew: 改めて is doing it anew, so again or another time
改める (aratameru) means to change or renew, and the te-form 改めて means starting it over: once more, or at a later time. It is common in polite phrases like 改めて連絡します, meaning I will contact you again.
改 — 己 (self) + 攴/攵 (action/strike)
改 is a compound of 己 'self' and 攵 (the action radical, originally a hand holding a stick). The image is of striking or applying force to oneself or one's situation, suggesting reform or correction. From this came the modern meaning 'to change, alter, correct'.
