捨てる

すてる · suteru · JLPT N4 · verb-ichidan

throw away

🗑️ suteru: it's stale? Su-TOSS it. Stale → suteru → throw it away

The su-te of suteru sounds like the start of stale: stale food gets thrown out. The kanji 捨 has the hand radical 扌 on the left, because discarding is something a hand does: hand + let go = throw away.
