指導

しどう · shidou · JLPT N3 · noun

guidance

🧭 指導 = point (指) + lead (導): point the way and lead someone along it

指 is the finger kanji, used for pointing; 導 means to lead or guide, as in 導く (michibiku). A coach does both: points out the direction, then leads you there. Sound hook: shidou starts like she, so: she do the coaching.

指 — hand radical 扌 + 旨 (zhǐ, phonetic)
指 is a semantic-phonetic compound. The hand radical 扌 gives the meaning — something done with the hand, namely pointing with a finger. 旨 supplies the sound 'zhǐ'. From 'finger' it naturally extended to the verb 'to point' and figurative senses like 'to indicate' or 'to refer to'.
