払う
はらう · harau · JLPT N4 · verb-godan
to pay
💴 harau sounds like hurrah-oo: hurrah, the bill is paid
払 = hand (扌) + ム, a simplified form of 拂, to brush away with the hand. The original sense is sweeping something off, as in dusting. Paying is brushing a debt away, so the same verb covers both to sweep off and to pay.
