⚔️ tatakau = tataku (to hit) + au (each other): hitting each other
The verb is traditionally traced to 叩き合う, to strike one another. The kanji 戦 has 戈 on its right, an ancient halberd and the weapon radical. It is the same 戦 as in 戦争 sensō, war.
