💭 思い + 出す = thought + take out: to pull a thought back out

思い (omoi) is a thought or feeling, from 思う, to think. 出す (dasu) means to take out or bring out. Recalling is literally taking a stored thought out again. The same 出す ending appears in 取り出す (to take out) and 言い出す (to speak up).

出 — foot 止 emerging from enclosure 凵
出 is a pictograph showing a foot or plant stepping out of a hollow or enclosure, depicting the act of going forth. The original sense of 'coming out' or 'emerging' has remained stable since oracle bone script. It now broadly means 'to exit, go out, or produce.'
