mentality

🧠 心理 = heart/mind (心) + logic (理): the logic of the mind

心 (shin) is heart or mind; 理 (ri) is reason or principle, as in 理由 (reason) and 料理 (cooking). Together: the inner workings of the mind, i.e. mentality. Add 学 (study) and you get 心理学, psychology.

心 — pictograph of a heart with chambers and aorta
心 is a pictograph showing a stylized heart, with strokes representing the organ's chambers and the aorta at the top. Originally meaning the physical heart, it broadened to cover mind, feelings, and intentions, since ancient Chinese thought located thinking and emotion in the heart.

理 — jade radical 玉/王 + village 里 (phonetic)
理 is a semantic-phonetic compound: the jade radical 王 (玉) on the left signals meaning, while 里 on the right gives the sound. It originally meant the natural veins or grain in a piece of jade, then extended to 'pattern,' 'order,' 'principle,' and finally the modern senses 'reason' and 'to manage.'
