帯

おび · obi · JLPT N3 · noun

set

👘🎀 Obi, the wide sash tied around a kimono. The 巾 at the bottom means cloth

English borrowed obi straight from Japanese for the kimono sash. The 巾 at the bottom of 帯 is the cloth radical, and the top part was originally a belt with hanging tassels. Same kanji as 地帯, a zone or band of land.
