🔤 字体 = character + body: the body or shape a character takes

字 means written character and 体 means body or form, so 字体 is the form your letters take, which is a font. Chinese uses the same word, 字体 zìtǐ. Japanese also has 書体 (shotai) for a typeface style.

字 — roof 宀 + child 子
Originally depicted a child 子 under a roof 宀, suggesting birth or rearing a child in the home. The meaning later extended to 'to give birth, nurture' and then to 'written character', since characters were seen as offspring derived from earlier pictographs.
