🌤️ 天候 = sky + conditions: what the sky is up to today
天 means sky or heaven, as in 天気 (weather). 候 means season or condition, as in 気候 (climate). Put them together and you get the sky's current conditions. It is a bit more formal than 天気 and turns up in forecasts and news reports.
天 — 一 (one/sky) above 大 (big person)
Originally a pictograph of a person (大) with an emphasized head, representing what is above — the sky or heavens. The top stroke evolved into 一, symbolizing the vast expanse overhead. From 'sky' it extended to mean 'day,' 'heaven,' and 'nature.'
