売行き
うれゆき · ureyuki · JLPT N2 · noun
gross sales
🛒📈 売行き = sell (uru) + going (yuki): how the selling is going
売 is the stem of 売る (uru, to sell) and 行き comes from 行く (iku, to go). 売行き is how well something is selling, so a product with 売行きがいい is selling well.
行 — crossroads pictograph (left 彳 + right 亍)
行 originally pictured a four-way crossroads in oracle bone script, with two paths meeting. From 'road' it extended to 'walk, go, travel,' and then to 'a row, line' or 'business firm' (read háng). The two halves 彳 and 亍 are the split sides of that ancient crossroads.
