因る

よる · yoru · JLPT N3 · verb-godan

to come from

🌱 yoru sounds like YOUR: it comes from YOU, it's due to YOU. 因 = cause

因 is the kanji for cause, as in 原因 (genin, cause) and 要因 (yōin, factor). 因る means to be caused by or to come from, e.g. 事故は不注意に因る: the accident came from carelessness. Hook: it's because of YOUR doing.

因 — enclosure 囗 + big 大
因 originally pictured a person (大) lying on a mat or cushion, shown by the surrounding box (囗). The original sense was 'mat' or 'to rely on,' which extended to 'cause,' 'reason,' and 'because of.' The 'mat' meaning was later written with 茵.
