否
いや · iya · JLPT N3 · noun
no
👄 否 = 不 (not) + 口 (mouth): a mouth that says not. Iya sounds like ee-yah, nah!
The top part 不 means not, and the bottom part 口 is a mouth, so 否 is a mouth saying no. Read it as iya, close to an irritated ee-yah, nope. The same kanji shows up in 否定 (hitei, denial).
