humble expression for 行く and 来る
⛩️ 参 = take part, visit; 参る began as going to a shrine or a superior
The kanji 参 also appears in 参加 (participate) and お参り (shrine visit). Going to a place above you in rank became the humble way to say your own going or coming, as in 行ってまいります. Sound hook: my-ru, as in my humble route.
