動く

うごく · ugoku · JLPT N4 · verb-godan

to move

🚚 動 = heavy (重) + power (力): put force on a heavy thing and it moves

The kanji 動 joins 重 (heavy) with 力 (strength). Apply strength to something heavy and it moves. Sound hook: ugoku sounds like you go — when you go, you move. The same kanji appears in 自動車 (self-moving vehicle = car).
