🎭 俳 jester + 優 performer: two old words for entertainer, paired
In classical Chinese both 俳 and 優 meant a court entertainer or comic player. You see 俳 in 俳句 (haiku) and 優 in 女優 (joyuu, actress). Doubling the two gave the modern word for actor.
