何~

なん~ · nan~ · JLPT N5 · noun

what sort of ~

何 (nan) = what; glued to a word it asks what sort of or how many

何 is the kanji for what, read nani alone and clipped to nan before another word. As a prefix it turns the next word into a question: 何人 = how many people, 何色 = what colour. Sound hook: nan sounds like none, as in none known yet, so you ask.
