伝統

でんとう · dentou · JLPT N3 · noun

tradition

🎎 伝 pass down + 統 lineage = a line of custom passed down; den-tou: done then, too

伝 means to transmit or hand on, as in 伝える (to convey). 統 means a lineage or unbroken line, as in 系統 (system, lineage). A tradition is a lineage that keeps getting handed on. The sound-alike den-tou, done then too, says the same: what was done then is still done now.
