乾電池

かんでんち · kandenchi · JLPT N2 · noun

battery

🔋 乾 dry + 電 electric + 池 cell = a dry electric cell, since its electrolyte is a paste, not liquid

The 池 in 電池 (battery) also means pond, a container for liquid. Kan- sounds like the English word can, and 乾 means dry, which is why batteries are called dry cells.
