ペンキ
ペンキ · penki · JLPT N3 · noun
paint
🎨🖌️ ペンキ comes from Dutch pek (pitch, tar), a word sailors brought to Japan
Dutch traders brought pek (pitch, the tar used to seal ships) to Edo-era Japan. In Japanese the word grew into penki and came to mean any house or wall paint. Pen-ki also sounds a little like pen and key, two everyday things.
