cup
☕ kappu = English cup, with a tiny pause before the p and a u tacked on
A loanword from English cup (earlier via Dutch kop). Japanese syllables must end in a vowel, so cup gains a final u, and the small ッ doubles the p: ka-p-pu. Used for mugs, teacups and trophies; a handleless glass is コップ (koppu).
