🗿 jitto = sit-o: sit still, quiet and patient, without moving
じっと is a mimetic adverb for holding still. The small っ makes a tiny pause mid-word, so the word itself stops and waits: ji-(hold)-to. Used in じっと待つ (wait patiently) and じっと見る (stare fixedly).
