こう

こう · kou · JLPT N4 · adverb

like this

👉 ko- marks things near the speaker: kore, koko, kono, and kou = this way

Japanese has a ko-so-a-do set: kou (like this), sou (like that), aa (like that over there), dou (how). The ko- always means near me, so kou is the manner I am showing right now. Sounds like the co in co-pilot: do it with me, this way.
