あんなに

あんなに · annani · JLPT N3 · noun

extent

📏 あんな (that kind, over there) + に (adverb ending) = that much, to that degree

Japanese has a ko-so-a pattern: こんなに means this much, そんなに that much (near you), あんなに that much (over there or in memory). The あ- words like あれ and あそこ point at something distant, so あんなに often recalls a degree seen in the past.
