あれ

あれ · are · JLPT N5 · noun

one

a = far from us both: kore (this), sore (that), are (that over there)

Japanese pointing words share the ending -re; only the first sound changes. ko- is near me, so- is near you, a- is far from both of us. So are is the thing distant from speaker and listener alike. Same pattern: koko, soko, asoko.
