neck

颈部 — neck

🦒 颈 = neck + 部 = part/region; the neck region of the body

颈 (jǐng) is the neck itself; 部 (bù) means part or section, the same 部 in 部分 (part). Together: the neck area. A giraffe (长颈鹿, long-neck deer) carries 颈 in its name.

部 — 阝(邑) right + 咅 phonetic
The right-side 阝 derives from 邑 (city/settlement), giving the meaning of a region, district, or administrative division. The left side 咅 supplies the sound. Originally referring to a settlement, the meaning broadened to 'part,' 'section,' or 'ministry.'
