container

📦🚢 集 gather + 装 load + 箱 box = the big box you gather and load cargo into

Breaks into three parts: 集 (gather/assemble), 装 (load/pack), 箱 (box/case). A shipping container is literally the box you gather and load freight into, hence jí zhuāng xiāng.

集 — bird 隹 on top of tree 木
集 is an ideograph showing a bird (隹) perched on a tree (木). The original form depicted three birds gathering on a tree, later simplified to one. From 'birds flocking together' it extended to mean 'gather, collect, assemble,' and by extension 'collection' or 'volume' of writings.

装 — clothes 衣 + strong 壮 (phonetic)
装 is a semantic-phonetic compound. The bottom 衣 ('clothes') gives the meaning, since the original sense was packing or dressing—putting clothes or goods into a bundle. The top 壮 supplies the sound. Meanings extended from 'to dress/attire' to 'to load, install, pretend'.

箱 — bamboo radical 竹 + 相 (xiāng) phonetic
A semantic-phonetic compound. The bamboo radical 竹 on top signals the original meaning: a box or chest woven from bamboo or made of wood. The component 相 below supplies the sound 'xiāng'. Over time the meaning broadened from bamboo containers to boxes and cases of any material.
