醒目

eye-grabbing

👁️ 醒 wake + 目 eye = something so striking it wakes up your eyes

醒 means wake/sober-up and 目 means eye. Together: eye-grabbing — a headline or illustration so striking it jolts the eyes awake. The 'mù' eye component also shows up in 目标 (target/goal).

醒 — wine/alcohol 酉 + star 星 (phonetic)
A semantic-phonetic compound. The left side 酉 depicts a wine jar and gives the meaning 'related to alcohol' — originally 'to sober up from drunkenness.' The right side 星 (xīng) supplies the sound. The meaning later broadened to 'wake up' and 'become aware.'
