parking spot

🅿️🚗 车位 = car + position — the spot where your car sits

车 (chē) means car/vehicle, 位 (wèi) means position or seat. Together they literally say car-position: the designated slot where a vehicle parks, whether in a garage, lot, or taxi stand.

车 — pictograph of a chariot/cart
车 is a pictograph originally drawn as a top-down view of a chariot, showing the axle, wheels, and carriage box. The ancient form 車 clearly depicted two wheels connected by an axle. It still means vehicle, cart, or car today.

位 — person radical 亻 + stand 立
位 combines the person radical 亻 with 立 (to stand), originally depicting a person standing in their proper place at court. It came to mean 'position, rank, or place,' and is now also used as a polite measure word for people.
