truck

货车 — truck

🚚 货车 = 货 goods/freight + 车 vehicle = a goods-vehicle, i.e. a truck

车 is the all-purpose word for wheeled vehicle (also in 汽车 car, 火车 train). Stick 货 freight in front and you get the cargo-hauling member of the family: a truck or freight wagon.

货 — 化 (huà, phonetic) + 貝 (shell, money)
A semantic-phonetic compound: 貝 (cowrie shell) signals money or commerce, while 化 supplies the sound. Cowries served as ancient Chinese currency, so 货 originally meant valuables exchanged for shells, later broadening to 'goods' or 'merchandise'.

车 — pictograph of a chariot/cart
车 is a pictograph originally drawn as a top-down view of a chariot, showing the axle, wheels, and carriage box. The ancient form 車 clearly depicted two wheels connected by an axle. It still means vehicle, cart, or car today.
