sleeping bag
🛌 睡袋 = 睡 sleep + 袋 bag = sleeping bag
睡 (shuì) is the verb to sleep, the same 睡 in 睡觉. 袋 (dài) means bag or sack, as in 口袋 pocket and 袋鼠 kangaroo (pouch-rat). Stack them and you literally get a sleep-bag.
睡 — eye 目 + drooping 垂
睡 is a semantic compound: 目 (eye) signals the meaning, while 垂 (to droop, hang down) suggests eyelids falling. Together they depict drooping eyelids, i.e. dozing off. The original sense was nodding off while sitting; it later broadened to mean sleep in general.
袋 — 代 (dài, phonetic) + 衣 (clothing)
袋 is a semantic-phonetic compound. The bottom 衣 'clothing/cloth' gives the meaning, since bags were originally made of cloth, while 代 on top supplies the sound 'dài'. It has long meant 'bag, sack, pouch'.
