genuine

✅ 正版 = correct/upright + edition (= the legitimate one)

正 means correct or upright; 版 means edition or printing plate. Together: the correct edition, i.e. the genuine, authorized version. Its opposite 盗版 swaps 正 for 盗 (steal) = pirated edition.

正 — one 一 + stop 止
Originally an ideograph showing a foot (止) advancing toward a target line (一), meaning 'to march straight toward' a city or goal. From this came the senses 'upright,' 'correct,' and 'proper.' The military sense survives in 征 (to campaign), which took over the original 'march' meaning.

版 — 片 (slice/board) + 反 (phonetic 'fǎn')
版 is a semantic-phonetic compound. The 片 component means a thin slice or board of wood, indicating the meaning, while 反 supplies the sound. Originally it referred to wooden writing tablets or printing blocks, which extended to today's senses of 'edition,' 'printing plate,' and 'version.'
