authentic

🏆 正 correct + 宗 lineage/ancestral school = the genuine, authentic old-school tradition

正 — one 一 + stop 止
Originally an ideograph showing a foot (止) advancing toward a target line (一), meaning 'to march straight toward' a city or goal. From this came the senses 'upright,' 'correct,' and 'proper.' The military sense survives in 征 (to campaign), which took over the original 'march' meaning.

宗 — roof 宀 + altar/show 示
宗 depicts an altar (示) under a roof (宀), picturing an ancestral shrine where offerings were made. From this concrete image it came to mean 'ancestor' and 'clan,' then extended to 'school' or 'sect' — a lineage of teaching traced back to a founding master.
