full of youthful energy
🌅🌱 朝 = morning + 气 vibe; 蓬勃 = lush sprouting plants — morning energy bursting like fresh shoots
朝气 literally means morning air or morning spirit, the freshness of dawn. 蓬勃 describes plants growing thick and fast. Together: brimming with the vigorous, sprouting energy of a new morning.
朝 — 十 + 日 + 十 + 月 (sun rising among grass, moon fading)
Originally a pictograph showing the sun (日) rising among grass or trees with the moon (月) still visible, depicting dawn. The core meaning 'morning' (zhāo) was extended to 'dynasty' or 'court audience' (cháo), since officials gathered before the ruler at daybreak.
气 — steam/vapor radical 气
Originally a pictograph of rising vapor or clouds drifting in the sky, depicting curling streams of air. The character came to mean breath, air, and by extension vital energy or 'qi.' The simplified form 气 keeps the original outline; the traditional 氣 added 米 (rice) to suggest steam rising from cooking grain.
