有关

yǒuguān · HSK 6

be related

🔗 有 (have) + 关 (gate/barrier) = sharing a gate means you're connected

If two things share the same gate or checkpoint, they must be related. YǒuGuān sounds a bit like 'you-gone' — once someone is gone through your gate, you two had a connection.

有 — hand 𠂇 + moon/meat 月
Originally depicted a hand holding a piece of meat (月 here is the 'meat' radical, not moon), expressing the idea of possessing something. Over time the meaning broadened from 'to hold/possess' to the general sense of 'to have' or 'there is/exists'.

关 — door 门 + simplified 关 inside
关 is the simplified form of 關. The traditional character showed a gate (門) with a bolt or crossbar inside, depicting a barred door — hence 'to close' or 'shut'. Meaning later extended to 'pass' (a guarded gate), 'barrier', and figuratively 'concern' or 'connection'.
