Seating seat
💺 就 (go to) + 座 (seat) = go to your seat, be seated
就 means to approach or take up; 座 is a seat. Together 就座 is the formal act of taking your seat. The same 座 appears in 座位 (seat) and 讲座 (lecture, a seat of teaching).
就 — 京 (capital) + 尤 (especially)
Originally a compound suggesting going to a high place (京 depicts a tall building) to settle or accomplish something. Over time the meaning shifted from 'approach a high place' to 'go to,' then broadened to 'accomplish,' and finally to the modern grammatical senses 'then,' 'just,' or 'precisely.'
座 — 广 (shelter) + 坐 (to sit)
Originally written as 坐, meaning 'to sit' (two people 人人 sitting on the ground 土). The shelter radical 广 was added to specify the place where one sits — a seat, throne, or platform. 坐 remained the verb 'to sit,' while 座 became the noun 'seat.'
