advantage

✅ 好处 = good (好) + place (处) — the good part of something, i.e. a benefit

好 means good and 处 means place or point. Together they name the good aspect of a situation: an advantage, perk, or benefit. Compare 坏处 (bad + place) which means drawback or disadvantage.

好 — woman 女 + child 子
好 is an associative compound showing a woman 女 beside a child 子, depicting a mother with her baby. From this image of maternal affection it came to mean 'good, fine, pleasing.' The reading hǎo means 'good'; read hào it means 'to like.'

处 — 夂 (foot) + 几 (low table/stool)
Originally depicted a person stopping (夂, an inverted foot) beside a stool (几), suggesting someone settling down in a place. From 'to dwell/stay' the meaning broadened to 'place, location' (chù) and 'to handle, deal with' (chǔ). The simplified form drops the older 虍 top found in 處.
