head

头 (head) + 顶 (top/peak) = the top of the head

头 means head; 顶 means top or peak (the same 顶 as in 山顶, mountain peak). Stack them and you get the peak of the head — the crown.

头 — 页 (head/page) + 豆 (bean, phonetic)
The traditional form 頭 combines 頁 (xié), meaning 'head', with 豆 (dòu) as the phonetic component. 頁 itself originally depicted a person with an emphasized head. The simplified form 头 is a modern shorthand that replaces 豆+頁 with a simpler shape while keeping the same meaning of 'head' or 'top'.

顶 — 页 (head) + 丁 (phonetic)
顶 is a semantic-phonetic compound. The 页 component, originally a pictograph of a head, gives the meaning — the top of the head, hence 'top' or 'peak.' The 丁 component supplies the sound (dīng → dǐng). It later extended to verbs like 'support from below' or 'carry on the head.'
