🎭 后 behind + 台 platform/stage = the platform behind the curtain: backstage, back-end
后 means behind or after; 台 is a platform or stage (same 台 as 舞台 stage). Together: the platform behind the scenes — a theatre's backstage, a server's back-end, or the supporter working out of sight.
后 — 厂 cliff + 一 + 口 mouth
Originally depicted a ruler or sovereign issuing commands, showing a figure with a mouth giving orders. It came to mean 'queen' or 'empress.' In modern simplified Chinese, 后 also absorbed the meaning 'behind/after' from the traditional character 後, so context decides which sense applies.
台 — mouth 口 + 厶 (private)
Originally depicted a raised platform or terrace, suggesting elevation and a place to stand. The character later extended to mean stage, podium, or station. In modern usage it also serves as the simplified form of 臺 (platform) and 颱 (typhoon), and names Taiwan (台灣).
