🐯 吉祥 = lucky/auspicious + 物 = thing; a mascot is the lucky-charm thing of a team or event
吉 means lucky and 祥 means auspicious, so 吉祥 together is good-fortune. Add 物 (thing/object) and you get the good-luck object: a mascot. Note 物 is the same character as in 动物 (animal) and 礼物 (gift).
