兔 — rabbit

🐰 兔 = rabbit; the character shows a crouching rabbit with its short tail at bottom-right

The dot at the lower right is the pictographic tail. Pronounced tù (4th tone), it sounds like English too with a sharp falling pitch. Appears in 兔子 (tùzi, rabbit) and 玉兔 (yùtù, the moon rabbit of legend).

兔 — pictograph of a rabbit with ears, body, and tail
兔 is a pictograph: ancient forms in oracle bone and bronze script depict a rabbit in profile, showing its long ears, crouching body, and short tail. Over time the drawing was squared off into the modern character. The small dot at the bottom right preserves the rabbit's tail.
