👥 他 (he/other) + 人 (person) = other people; another person, not you

他 marks the third party — the he/she/it outside yourself — and 人 means person, so 他人 is literally other-person: somebody else, strangers, others as opposed to oneself.

他 — person radical 亻 + 也
Originally written 它, depicting a snake, and used as a general third-person pronoun. The person radical 亻 was later added to specify a human referent, while 也 serves as the phonetic component giving the sound tā.

人 — pictograph of a standing person
人 is a pictograph showing a person viewed from the side, with two strokes representing the legs and torso of a standing human. In oracle bone script it clearly depicted a figure leaning slightly forward. The meaning has remained 'person' or 'human' throughout its history.
