不屑
bù xiè · HSK 7
to think sth not worth doing
😤 bù xiè = not + crumbs — won't even bother with the scraps
不 means not, 屑 means crumbs or bits. Together: something so trivial you won't stoop to pick up the crumbs. The contempt is built in — it's beneath you, not even worth the smallest effort.
不 — single pictograph; bird flying upward
Originally a pictograph in oracle bone script, traditionally interpreted as a bird flying up toward the sky and unable to come down, suggesting negation or refusal. Over time it became the standard negation word in Chinese, used before verbs and adjectives to mean 'not'.
